The day following Mardi Gras is, in the Christian Calendar, Ash Wednesday. This day marks the start of the 40 days of Lent. We mark the start of Lent by acknowledging our nature and this transitory life. As Ashes are placed on the forehead as an outward sign it is said, “That from dust ye came. To dust ye shall return.” Here follows our offerings for the day.
9:30 Ashes will be distributed at The Tulane School of Medicine
Noon The Service of the Imposition of Ashes followed by Holy Eucharist at St. Anna’s Church, 1313 Esplanade Ave.
1:00 P.M. All interested are invited to process through the Treme remembering the Stations of the Cross and offering ashes to neighbors.
6:00 P.M. A full Solemn High Mass with imposition of Ashes will conclude the day.
