DISCRETIONARY FUND- Even More Important Now

Alms boxes were permanent fixtures in churches of old. Those were monies donated to distribute to the needs of the poor by clergy and religious in churches, abbes, and convents. In the Episcopal Church and at St. Anna’s Church we have The Deacon and Rector’s Discretionary Funds. These are fund set aside to assist the needs of parishioners and beyond. Over the past years about 25% of the funds assisted with Medical co-payments and prescriptions, about half for various housing needs, and the remainder for scholarships to attend retreats or purchased Christian educational materials. Remember to make a special donation once a month to the Rector or Deacon’s Discretionary Fund. Alms for the poor. It’s usually a hand up not a hand out.
